Poland launches the first project of biometric payment in Europe

You can pay at a glance. Poland is launching the first pilot project of biometric payment in Europe: everything is entrusted to the consumer’s iris. It is from this unique characteristic of each individual that the electronic payment brain associates the current account from which to withdraw the sum for purchases.

The test of the system, developed on Empik’s network, is part of the Mastercard Biometric Checkout program and sees the collaboration of the Polish fintech company PayEye, Empik, and Planet Pay: it will work through a mobile app, in which users register their data and payment card numbers only once. For the first transaction, the system requires confirmation via PIN or phone number, then it will go automatically.

With this experimental project, Poland is taking another step forward in last-ditch payment methods and thus continuing a path of technology and innovation. According to Mastercard, 80% of Polish respondents have used biometric security measures, and almost all individuals between the ages of 18 and 25 have experience with biometrics.
