The city’s main attraction is a thirteenth-century castle, owned by the Municipality, which is now offered to Elon Musk.
Mayor Piotr Bujak of Glogowek has officially extended an invitation to Elon Musk through a post on Musk’s X profile and a formal letter to his companies. The mayor emphasized that the owner of Tesla and SpaceX, who is also a trusted political advisor to Donald Trump, would find the offer irresistible. Bujak noted that media reports in Europe suggest Musk is seeking a strategic location for his operations on the continent. Glogowek Castle, with its picturesque setting, is conveniently located near major European capitals such as Warsaw, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, and Bratislava.
The castle also has the potential to accommodate a helicopter landing strip, catering to the travel preferences of a billionaire. “The castle has a very beautiful atmosphere and is the ideal place for great things,” Bujak stated. “There is a perfect climate here. It’s the best place on Earth.“
The castle’s origins date back to the Middle Ages, despite numerous renovations and modernizations by successive owners. It has historical significance, having hosted Polish King Jan Kazimierz during the Swedish flood and composer Ludwig van Beethoven, who created several works within its walls. The castle’s 3,000 square meters can be utilized for various purposes, and the city’s sole ownership could facilitate a smooth transaction.
Historically, the castle was a fortress of the Piast dynasty of Opole and later the residence of the aristocratic Oppersdorff family. During Napoleon Bonaparte’s conquest of Europe, Beethoven sought refuge in the manor and dedicated one of his famous symphonies to the master of the house as a token of gratitude. To dispel any notion of this being a mere publicity stunt, Mayor Bujak made the proposal public through a social media post.
“The media have reported that Elon Musk is looking for a castle in Europe to serve as the coordination center for his companies’ development on the continent,” Bujak informed his followers. “Therefore, we decided to offer him an exclusive location: Glogowek Castle. Emails have already been sent to his companies. It’s always worth trying.”
The castle, offering ample space for both residential and commercial purposes, requires a complete renovation and a private investor. While Mayor Bujak did not discuss costs, financial considerations are expected not to be an issue for the world’s richest man. As of now, neither Musk nor his representatives have responded to the mayor’s generous offer.
